RESULTS BASED MANAGEMENT CONSULTANCY
Performance & results :
During the past decade development projects around the world are under pressure to demonstrate the efficient and effective use of resources, and the results they are achieving. These pressures have contributed to the emergence of Performance and Results-Based Management approaches in the development sector.
Results-Based Management (RBM) is an approach that puts together the management of strategies, resources, activities and information about performance, with a view to improve effectiveness, efficiency and accountability, and achieving results. RBM can be applied in planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on any type of program or management initiative.
Development projects often are rather complex undertakings. Many projects are designed as technical interventions without an adequate institutional set-up and without due regard to other factors. Another complicating factor is the management of data and information. As a result, organizations and all the stakeholders in the projects are frequently confronted with a range of problems while moving from a management approach that focuses on inputs and processes, to RBM.
A good command of technical skills in RBM and skills to use information management systems will help organisations to move towards RBM.
Results based management & approach :
Result is a describable or measurable change in status that is derived from a cause and effect relationship.

Meaning, result is a change that can be observed, described and measured in some way, and for which the cause can be identified.
Broadly results-based management (RBM) involves :
- Analyzing the problems to be addressed and determining their causes and effects;
- Identifying measurable or describable changes (results) to be achieved, based on appropriate problem analyses;
- Designing strategies and activities that will lead to these changes (results);
- Balancing expected results with the resources available;
- Monitoring progress regularly and adjusting the activities as needed to ensure that the desired results are achieved;
- Evaluating, documenting and incorporating lessons learned into decision making and into the next planning phase;
- Reporting on the results achieved and their contribution to reaching organizational goals.
IPFM training and consultancy services support organizations in all the above areas of RBM. Additionally organizations are also supported with customized software based data and information management system, which play a pivotal role in RBM.
Most development interventions provoke change processes but changes never take place overnight, and without problems or even conflicts. IPFM aims to assist in facilitating changes rather than providing blue prints, by developing workable solutions in close consultation with all stakeholders concerned.
Our team of professionals, who specialize in different aspects of RBM, support and equip organizations to move towards results.
Consultancy :
IPFM has designed a number of consultancy methods and instruments in close consultation with the client organizations for all the above areas of RBM.
Over the past 3 years IPFM has been engaged in long-term guidance of change processes, project management units and short-term consultancy assignments in RBM. Most long-term assignments are combinations of organizational strengthening and human resources development using RBM. The short-term missions reflect the scope of IPFM expertise in general: training, workshop moderation, stakeholder analysis, development and management of human resources, project and programme formulation, monitoring systems design and project, programme and policy evaluations using RBM.
IPFM has executed assignments for almost all major international multilateral and bilateral donor agencies and for a considerable number of international and national NGO’s.
Trainning :
All our training courses in Results Based Management are designed and conducted specifically for staff of organizations engaged in one or more aspects of project planning, implementation, monitoring or evaluation. The development perspective differs from organization to organization and from position to position within these organizations. Our trainings are tailored to these various perspectives.
People designing the trainings have ample practical experience in Results Based Management. They are of a practical nature, rich in visual elements and characterized by participation and interaction. All trainings are based on the principles of adult learning and thus consider participants’ experiences and mutual exchange of experiences as an important vehicle for learning.
IPFM offers a package of courses on RBM that can be attended separately, yet at the same time these courses are interrelated and build upon each other. The various training courses and course guide is enclosed.
